Grafexp

High purity expandable graphite with different particle sizes and levels of expandability

Expandable Graphite is a natural crystalline graphite treated (intercalated) to form a compound with unique exfoliating properties. When subjected to high temperatures, the treated grain expands up to 150 times from the original volume. The exfoliation process is a result of the rapid volatilization of chemicals trapped in the layers of the graphite crystal, causing a “burst” in the crystal structure parallel to the crystallographic axis “C”.

The “expanded graphite” is a very bulky material which retains most of the properties of the original particles, but gaining an additional processability or the ability to be compressed into a highly cohesive flexible sheet, which is resistant to heat and to chemicals products.

Due to its heat resistance properties, expandable graphite is one of the additives to produce products and passive fire protective intumescents.

The Grafexp line is the right solution for:

  • Intumescent products and passive protection against fire;
  • Flexible sheets;
  • Post moulding;
  • Anti-piping exothermic or insulating compounds;
  • Insulation compounds and fire retardants.
